Sound Machine

Sound Machine

is a commercial music service for businesses: licensed background music for shops, restaurants, hotels and offices. MZAP can play your Sound Machine stations, mixes and weekly schedules as a player, routed to any of your zones.

You need your own Sound Machine account. Sound Machine offers a free trial with no credit card required.

  • One Sound Machine account covers one physical location. Each venue needs its own account.
  • One account can drive up to 10 Sound Machine players in MZAP, and each player can play to as many zones as you like.
  • Another computer running MZAP needs its own Sound Machine account: when the same account signs in elsewhere, playback here stops.

For questions about plans and licensing, contact Sound Machine.

  1. Create your zones first (Zones tab), so the new player has somewhere to play.
  2. Open Settings → Sound Machine → Add account and enter your Sound Machine username and password. MZAP signs in to check them before saving.
  3. In Players, choose Create → Sound Machine…, pick the account and a source — a station (from Genres, My Stations or Search), a mix or a weekly schedule — and create the player.
  4. Tick the zones the player should play to and press Play.

The Sound Machine integration requires the Sound Machine license feature, which the free MZAP trial includes.

  • Change source switches to another station, mix or schedule while playing.
  • Announcements and ads you schedule on the Sound Machine website play automatically, both "every N songs" and timed messages.
  • Next skips the song; Sound Machine allows 6 skips per hour per account.
  • Like marks the song (press again to undo). Dislike blocks the song for your account and skips it; when the skip limit is reached, the song stays blocked but finishes playing.
  • Next, Like and Dislike are unavailable while a message plays.
  • Standby: the player is on but waiting. Nothing is scheduled right now, or Sound Machine can't be reached. It starts by itself when music is available; Check now asks Sound Machine immediately.

If another device starts playing the same Sound Machine account, every MZAP player on that account stops within about a minute and shows Play here. Pressing it resumes only that player.

MZAP stores your Sound Machine password encrypted on your computer. When it signs in, the username and password pass through the MZAP licensing server to Sound Machine; the password is never stored there. See the privacy policy.

  • MZAP Remote controls Sound Machine players: Like, Play/Pause, Stop, Next and (on the player screen) Dislike. It shows the source, song and cover, and offers Play here after another device takes over.
  • The AI assistant (MCP) can find stations, mixes and schedules, switch a player's source, like or dislike the current song and — for administrators — create Sound Machine players. Operators can change the source of the players assigned to them.
